Sometimes you just know a beautiful piece of art when you see it...Artist Cora Murphy first sent me an email almost a year ago after we took an online blogging course together. Not too long after I asked her if she would mind if I featured her and her work on White Tapestry and I'm so happy she was gracious to be apart of it, thank you Cora.
Cora is originally from the South east of Ireland, and then spent fifteen years traveling overseas before returning to live in Cork in 2008. Cora has made designing these magical pieces of artwork her full time love.
Although abstract in form, my paintings are most often seen as landscapes – capturing as they do, the essence or emotional significance I attach to a particular place or time.
While my influences are broad , my work is largely concerned with the natural world and our place in it. I take my inspiration on the land – literally - walking the land and immersing myself in the scene - a process I can only describe as 'dropping down' into the landscape - before documenting my response to the surroundings.
Inspiration can be found in everything. Everything you see, touch and admire and she uses all these to create. And far beyond the beauty in her work, her description of "dropping down into the landscape" is what I think all art should capture.
Thank you Cora for sharing your gift with us.
Cora is in the process of redesigning her site: Cora Murphy so that purchases will be able to be made (although you can still visit more of her creations there now), but in the meantime if you see something that interests you please reach out to her by email!
